Instructional Technology & Distance Education Committee

Purpose/Function

The purpose of the Instructional Technology and Distance Education Committee is to assist in setting directions and priorities for developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional technology and digital education directions for the University.

The committee will engage in the following activities:

  • Assist with setting directions and priorities for the use of the University’s instructional technology and digital education resources. Pursue integration of instructional technology needs and directions with University information systems.
  • Identify new academic technologies to be investigated and piloted and, if found desirable, provided to the University. Develop, encourage and articulate the connection between research and the classroom.
  • Continually evaluate the instructional technology and digital education support provided to the University (both centrally and at the collegiate level) and recommend enhancements and changes.
  • Communicate instructional technology and digital education directions and initiatives to faculty, staff and students.
  • Solicit feedback from the University on instructional technology and digital education needs and desired directions.

  • Learning Management System (LMS) review: the groups will conduct a review of the learning management system options in the market to identify candidates that best fit the needs of the university. The desired LMS would provide a reliable online environment with relevant and flexible tools that promote successful student learning.
  • Proctoring Service Review: the group will conduct a review of proctoring solutions in the market to identify candidates that best fit the needs of the university. The proctoring service should provide a secure and user-friendly experience for the academic community.
  • Academic Clinical/Negotiations Technology: the group will evaluate the key elements needed to effectively create/offer a room for clinical, interviewing, and observation practice. The committee will influence a core room design for new/updated facilities for the campus.
  • University-Wide Software: the group is responsible for looking at university software needs for academic instruction. The group will be responsible for reviewing current centralized software availability and updating based on academic needs.
  • Distance Education Strategic Plan: Faculty Focus Group: this group will participate in the onsite visit with members of the Distance Education Strategic Plan consultation group and share their current and desired experience with online education. The meetings will be held on October 29 and 30, 2019.
